Questions

Here are some key philosophical questions:

What is real? Can we know what’s real? Do we have free will? How do our social roles define us? What makes us who we are? Are we the same person through the course of our lives? What is it to be a good person? A bad person? What should we strive for? How can we be socially responsible? What’s the difference between sports and entertainment (if any)? What can pro wrestling teach us about the discipline of philosophy?

All these questions and more are explored in Philosophy Smackdown through some key examples in pro wrestling, both in-ring and backstage, including: Bret Hart and the Montreal Screwjob, Jon Moxley’s move from WWE to AEW, Becky Lynch as ‘The Man’, inter-gender wrestling in the Indies, Tessa Blanchard in Impact Wrestling, the character of Razor Ramon in 1996, the nWo and Hulk Hogan’s heel turn, Stone Cold Steve Austin and the rise of the Attitude Era, the Golden Lovers in New Japan Pro Wrestling, and more!
